The HEART 9/11 Veteran Build Team – comprised of New York City Fire Department (FDNY) New York City District Council of Carpenters – veteran members worked at Camp Elk Tannery, Benton, PA installing joists, decking, framing and sheathing walls, setting roof trusses and sheathing the roof of a 1,200 sq. ft. cabin addition. The camp provides weekend retreats for Veterans to get out of the city and connect with nature. HEART 9/11 members – comprised of New York City Fire Department (FDNY) New York City District Council of Carpenters – arrived in force to sheetrock the 4,500 sq ft cabin addition we built in November. HEART 9/11 is proud to join hands with Camp Elk Tannery to honor the sacrifices of the brave first responders, colleagues and family members lost, by providing the skilled manpower needed to repair and renovate the main cabin for sleep quarters along with building an addition to that structure.
