West Virginia has had several flooding events which have impacted families in more than one way. While they do have typical home damage, many families do not currently have safe access to their homes due to their bridge access was damaged in the event. The WV VOAD Currently has 303 families reporting damaged or destroyed Bridges or Culverts. HEART 9/11 has been contacted by FEMA because of our expertise in infrastructure makes us uniquely prepared for this project – most volunteer agencies do not have the capability, equipment and expertise for building bridges so this has become a monumental problem. Currently HEART 9/11 is reviewing the Private Water Crossings WV VOAD Bridge Replacement Guidelines submitted to the Bridge Committee. Once the guidelines have been approved by the group the plan will move forward.
