It seems we rarely hear about the amazing difference young people in this country are making in the world and their communities. In spite of the record breaking heat, HEART 9/11 had 50 out-of-state youths from St. Catherine of Alexandria Roman Catholic Church, Westford, MA work in Gerritsen Beach this past week. HEART 9/11 was able to link these volunteers who wanted to help with homeowners who so desperately still need help. The faces of the homeowners, as they watched these volunteers learn and work together, lit up with smiles. It was heart warming to the Gerritsen Beach residence to see that people have not forgotten them. These young volunteers brought much more than manpower to this neighborhood – they brought hope to a community still struggling to get back on its feet. HEART 9/11 salutes this group of outstanding volunteers and believes there is no stronger force than an individual who wants to make a difference.
