Dear Members and Supporters,
Thank you…Thank you…Thank you…
Once again, and I am not surprised by HEART 9/11’s membership that steps up and answers the call for help after a disaster, but this time it was even more personal – it was from our neighbors, our friends, and our colleagues. The level of Sandy’s devastation has been equaled by the overwhelming out pouring of help which once again defines the American people and the American spirit of helping.
The Greater NY Building & Construction Trades have mobilized their membership and their participation in HEART 9/11 has swelled out the ranks and provided expert experience and safe skills to our ongoing home demolition. It has become a familiar phrase….”How are you brother, we are here to help.” Our volunteer teams are now actively participating in the clean up and recovery in Wantagh, Long Island, Rockaway Queens and Staten Island. Cooperation continues 7 days a week. A special thanks to Tile, Marble & Terrazzo B.A.C. Local Union #7, the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, our good friends at Construction and General Building Laborers Local Union #79 and Iron Workers Local Union #40.
We encourage all HEART 9/11 members to volunteer for this important project. Our muster locations are:
Rockaway Queens…424 Beach 134th Street
Staten Island…Hunter Avenue and Fr. Cappadanno Blvd.
Wantagh Long Island…Is a very fluid situation. Send an email to ellenwright@heart911.org for updates in that location.
I would like to share with you a quick story from a homeowner in Staten Island, Carpenters Local member, this particular person, whose entire basement and first floor was compromised by Hurricane Sandy, sent his three children to live with a relative because of water and mold issues and they had not been home since the storm. “Last night, for the first time my kids slept in their house with me and my wife because HEART 9/11 and my brother building trades members removed the wet sheet rock and wood from my home. I don’t know how to thank you.”
Gratefully,
William Keegan
