It is impossible for me and many HEART 9/11 members to put into context the fact that today marks the 19th Anniversary of the first World Trade Center bombing. The loss of six lives can not and will not be diminished by the overwhelming deaths from the September 11, 2001 attacks. All are American heroes.

The kindergarden children I helped remove from the stalled Observation Deck elevator that fateful day in 1993 are now in their twenties, their courageous teachers have most likely retired. Many of my fellow P.A.P.D. officers, as well as the NYPD, FDNY, who performed heroically on February 26, 1993 perished upon the WTC Towers collapse eight years later.

We did not learn the lessons, heed the warnings that led to so many of our friends perishing in the performance of their duties. The lives of innocent civilians taken because we failed to prepare.

Let us reaffirm our promise to never let this happen again. We need to ensure that the resolve of our political leaders never waivers and we hold them accountable for their first priority which is to keep us safe.

Our hearts and prayers continue to be with the families of those who were killed on February 26, 1993 and we honor them by remaining vigilant.
