Thank you HEART 9/11 volunteers, the Carpenter’s Union Apprentice College and the finishers from Bona Floors for your hard work this weekend at the NY City Fire Museum. Bona Floors donated the materials along with their hardwood flooring expertise. Bona is the official NBA floor finisher. Saturday and Sunday volunteers stripped, sanded and sealed the event room in the NY City Fire Museum. This space not only hosts the FDNY Commissioner’s holiday party, but is the home to the museums annual September 11th luncheon that memorializes the 343 members of the Fire Department that made the Supreme Sacrifice on that day in 2001. It is also the museums rental space, which brings in revenue that helps sustain the operating cost allowing them to continue to preserve the history and legacy of New York’s Bravest and teach fire safety education to thousands of school children a year. In June, District Council 9 apprentice program members painted and restored the museum completing a scheduled 5 day project in less than 3 days. Union Labor at its best.HEART 9/11 encourages the public to visit this “Hidden Gem” at 278 Spring Street and see what we have done to restore the beauty of this old firehouse and vastly improve the visitor experience.
