HEART 9/11 partnered with the Errera Veteran Community Care Center of CT to provide the skilled workforce needed to remodel/renovate a home for an injured Afghanistan/Iraq veterans’ home in East Windsor, CT. VA Connecticut’s Errera Community Care Center (“ECCC”) has evolved into one of the leading centers of innovation in recovery and psychosocial rehabilitation in the integration of the psychosocial and biomedical approaches. ECCC serves veterans struggling with mental illness and/or substance abuse disorders, homelessness, and/or aging. HEART 9/11 was honored to have Stanley Black & Decker take part in the home remodel project. Stanley Black & Decker is committed to Veteran Support, Housing Assistance, and Disaster Relief. HEART 9/11 volunteers – Newtown Police Department, LIUNA Laborers Local 79 NYC, Project Rebirth/Project Cohort, along with Vietnam vets – showed up in force to demo the house down to the studs. HEART 9/11 skilled electric, roofing/siding, sheetrock/tape/spackle/paint volunteers continued the rebuild. We are in the home stretch. Kitchen and bathroom counters have been installed. Tile floors and kitchen backsplash have been completed. Carpeting and wood floor is complete. HEART 9/11 team leaders are working on the final punch list. Stay-tune for the announcement of the “Key Turning” ceremony in early spring. Thank you volunteers for helping get this veteran home.
